Stay Safe On The Internet Too

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to keep us confined to our homes, we have significantly increased our internet usage. Nowadays, people are connected to the internet all the time, be it for work, entertainment, or simply reading the news. While there is no denying the fact that the internet is the only way available to keep everyone connected during this unprecedented time, it’s also true that it comes with a number of concerns. The need to stay safe online has become more important with this rise in online activities.

So, here’s bringing you a couple of tips to stay as careful on the internet as you are about your health during the times of the pandemic.

1. Choose Strong Passwords For Your New Accounts

You might have opened new accounts to order groceries or stream movies for the first time. Make sure you set strong passwords for each of your new accounts. After all, your password is the first line of defense you have against the hackers.

It might be easy to remember ‘netflix123’ or ‘[email protected]$$word’ as passwords, but they are also the easiest for hackers to crack. So, make your password at least twelve characters long, and use symbols and special characters in it.

2. Beware Of The Phishing Attacks On Your Accounts

Phishing refers to email scams where hackers impersonate a company or service that you trust. They seem like the real deal because they look like the authentic emails. Phishing attacks might also come as text messages asking you to open certain links.

Make sure to never enter your password or payment details in a suspicious-looking link. Get in touch with the company directly, if the email looks like it’s from your bank or any other service provider.

3. Do Not Use The Same Password For All The Accounts

You might have used all the tips mentioned above to set a really secure password for one of your new accounts. But, this does not mean that you will use that same password for each account. In that case, you are increasing your vulnerability to malware attacks because, even if one account gets hacked, unfortunately, it will put all your accounts under threat.

If you find it hard to remember all your unique passwords, try using a good password manager. However, never use the same password for two accounts.

4. Keep Your Apps And Software Updated

Updating apps and software is a great way of fixing security loopholes, bugs, and other vulnerabilities. So, it’s not enough to have a high-end device like Maraphones, you will also make sure that it serves you effectively by regularly updating the apps that you have downloaded. Also, update the software when the brand keeps sending you notifications to that effect.

5. Verify The COVID-19 News You Send And Receive

You must have read a lot on COVID-19 in the past few months. In fact, you must have even shared some of that news with family members and received news links from them. While it’s important to stay informed, don’t believe everything that you read online. Verify the source of the news and read beyond just the eye-catching headline.

Staying safe online needs constant and conscious effort on your part. Hopefully, the tips we have mentioned above will offer you some guidance in that regard. So, keep these ideas in mind the next time you log in to your accounts.
