screen resolutions in mobile phones

When it comes to buying a smartphone, there is an array of factors that you need to consider. And the screen size in mobile phones is one of the imperative factors to consider. In this blog, we will be discussing everything that you need to know about screen resolutions in mobile phones.

HD

High Definition or HD is referred to as the display with pixel measurement of 1280 x 720 pixels. The smaller the HD display is, the higher will be the pixel density; therefore, better the image. The quality of the picture will depend on the screen size. A 5-inch screen would have a different quality picture as opposed to a 10-inch screen.

Full HD

Full HD is an advanced form of high definition version, which is currently seen in smartphones. Full HD features the measurement of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Similar to HD, the density of the pixel will depend on the size of your overall mobile screens. A smartphone with a 5-inch display would have 440 PPI, whereas the 5.5-inch smartphone display will be reduced to 400 PPI. In certain cases, people use HD and Full HP interchangeably, but there is an evident difference in the visual quality you get with both of them. With higher pixels, the picture detail in Full HD is better in comparison to full HD.

Quad HD

Quad HD or QHD is a screen resolution that has a four times higher definition of the normal HD. This implies that you can fit the same pixels as four HD display into a QHD display of the same size. The measurement of pixels in a QHD screen would stand at 2560 X1440 pixels. These screen resolutions are also defined as numbers- HD is denoted as 720p, Full HD is known as 1080p, and QHD is referred to as 2000 pixels or 2K. This resolution certainly does contribute to better detailing, and the difference can be seen in the quality of the image as opposed to Full HD.

4K or Ultra HD

4K and Ultra HD are two screen resolutions in mobile phones that often considered the same but are different. 4K displays have pixel measurements of 4096 x 2160, whereas Ultra HD display has 3,840 x 2160 pixels. The difference between these two resolutions comes down to their ration between digital cinema and home displays. Both these screen resolutions take more power as they provide more pixels. Smartphones with 4K certainly have improved image quality as opposed to displays with 1080p. However, you can notice the difference between 4K and Ultra HD, the latter being more efficient. A larger display like in Tablet would benefit more from Ultra HD displays, generally of higher pixels in them.

LCD

Liquid Crystal Display or LCD refers to the various different crystals light up through a backlight along with ubiquity. This screen comes at a relatively low price, which makes it a popular choice among smartphone users. This type of screen also works well in sunlight as there is light coming from behind. LCD displays are cheaper to manufacture and acquire; However, they are more battery consuming as they constantly rely on the backlight even when the screen in completely black.

AMOLED

Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode or AMOLED features TFT LCD technology. OLED is basically an organic material and exhibits light when the power runs through it. Contrary to LCD panels, OLED displays remain off until they are electrified. AMOLED display screens come with a faster refresh rate; however, they are difficult to view in the direct sunlight. Pixels in AMOLED display can be turned off entirely, thereby making it more energy-efficient. And this is the reason why these types of screens are considered apter for Active Display or Always-on Display.

When comparing screen resolutions in mobile phones, you should consider the numbers and technical information. You must understand how the screen would perform in the real world in order to make a feasible decision. Above are some of the popular screen resolutions available on mobile phones.
